LNG Bunkering Arrives in the Western Caribbean

The Western Caribbean reached an important milestone this month as the first cruise ship LNG bunkering operation in Latin America and the region was successfully completed in Roatán, Honduras. The operation marks a significant step forward in expanding alternative marine fuel infrastructure throughout the Caribbean.

Carnival Cruise Line's Carnival Jubilee was refueled using a mobile LNG bunkering solution at Isla Tropicale, creating a new fueling capability for LNG-powered vessels operating in the region. The development enhances operational flexibility for cruise ships sailing Western Caribbean itineraries.

Roatán's strategic location allows vessels to replenish fuel supplies with minimal deviation from scheduled routes, making it an attractive stop for LNG-powered fleets. As more vessels enter service using alternative fuels, regional bunkering infrastructure will become increasingly important.

LNG continues to gain traction as one of the most widely available lower-emission marine fuels. Compared to conventional fuels, LNG can reduce carbon emissions while significantly lowering sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter emissions.
