de-bunkering services

Caribbean Fuels was founded to supply only the highest quality petroleum products to all types of ocean-going vessels. Over time, Caribbean Fuels has adhered to new rules and regulations in the maritime industry, specifically with the updated IMO 2020 rules in place as of 1 January 2020. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) ruled that from 1 January 2020, marine sector emissions in international waters must be slashed by making vessels burn low-sulphur fuels.

De-bunkering is the term commonly used for offloading non-compliant bunker fuel from a ship. As IMO 2020 came into force on 1 January 2020 and the carriage ban on 1 March 2020, shipowners now face de-bunkering non-compliant fuel if the fuel is off-spec or if their on-board scrubbers cannot successfully reduce emissions. Caribbean Fuels has noticed a large increase in off-spec fuel claims as of 2020 due to the new marine fuels in the low-sulphur era including VLSFO 0.5% and ULSFO 0.1%.

Caribbean Fuels can de-bunker any of the following products/grades:

  • Marine Gas Oil (MGO)

  • Very Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (VLSFO) 0.5%

  • Ultra-Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (ULSFO) 0.1%

  • Ultra-Low Sulphur Diesel (ULSD)

  • Intermediate Fuel Oil (IFO-30/180/380/500cst)

  • Waste Oil

  • Dirty/Oily Water

  • Sludge/Slops/Sediment

In order to do our part to reduce global emissions, Caribbean Fuels' experienced team is fully equipped and committed to offering cost-effective and safe de-bunkering services to the maritime community. Whether you need 200MT of VLSFO de-bunkered by barge in Nassau, Bahamas or 300MT of waste oil removed in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands or 50MT of MGO de-bunkered by truck in Providenciales, Turks and Caicos, the Caribbean Fuels Team aims to please and facilitate the de-bunkering of ships. Bunkers may be either completely de-bunkered or may be re-bunkered to another vessel in the same port. On request we can also offer technical supervision and pumping equipment.
